Sunday School for Children

Sundays, 10:15 a.m.

In the Atrium

Sunday School for Children is called the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. We offer Catechesis level I for ages 3 to 6 and Catechesis level II for 2nd-5th grade. This program is Montessori-based and also based on the New Testament. Children have the freedom to select materials that they are drawn to and have the space for spiritual growth and discovery. This is a meditative time of learning where the children reveal their gifts and teach us. We are celebrating over 20 years of this program at St. James!

Nursery

Our nursery is open for our smallest parishioners ages 0-3! Parents, grandparents, and parishioners are welcome to sign up and volunteer for this ministry. Qualifications are to love children and take the Safe Church training online. Please contact the church office for more information.

Families with young kids are also welcome to use our children’s corner in the church itself! We offer carpeted areas, soft toys, and children’s books for our smallest parishioners.

Vacation Bible School 2026

June 1-4, 9 a.m. to noon

Trinity Presbyterian Church (900 Blythe St, Hendersonville, NC 28791)

VBS at Trinity Presbyterian Church, June 1-4 from 9 to noon. Children who are entering Pre-K through 6th grade are welcome to participate. Students who have completed 6th grade and up are welcome to volunteer. This VBS theme invites kids to be menders in God’s world.  As they make connections between Bible stories and mending actions, they’ll discover simple ways to live out faith in daily life. Each day, participants will rotate through four different stations, including crafts, story time, hands-on learning, and games/snacks.

Children’s Faith Formation

St. James provides faith formation and other resources for our young parishioners in the form of Sunday School classes and special play spaces for use during weekend services.

On Sunday, Nov. 24, for the Feast of Christ the King, Fr. David shared his original story as part of his sermon and invited all children forward for story time. You can revisit the story anytime below!
