Community Partnerships & Missions
Blue Ridge Service Corps at St. James
St. James is a proud partner with the Blue Ridge Service Corps, a ministry for young adults in the Diocese of Western North Carolina. BRSC is a year-long residential program that combines vocational discernment with community service in Henderson County and beyond. Each year, one or two BRSC members lives on campus at St. James in the Cox House and one serves as an intern here at St. James. The BRSC also leads us in worship at least once during the year.
Cuba Mission
St. James has a relationship with six churches in Cuba whom we pray for, raise funds for, and plan mission trips to when that possibility exists.
Hendersonville Hunger Walk
The Henderson County Hunger Coalition has a yearly fundraiser which St. James has been supporting for many years. Groups of parishioners both walk and actively solicit funds for this vital ministry of the community. The walk is traditionally held on the 3rd weekend in September.
St. James Giving Garden with Bruce Drysdale Elementary
Our multi-bed community garden is both a source of fresh produce for the community and a learning lab for kids, both in the parish and from nearby Bruce Drysdale Elementary School. This budding partnership sees fourth-graders from BDES adopt beds to grow their own flowers and fresh veggies. Our clergy and volunteers lead various activities for the classes to encourage learning about the growth cycle and offer a healthy snack, often from the garden itself! Every Thursday, during harvest season, fresh produce is available for free on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Thrift Shop. If you’ve got overflowing gardens in your own yard, please consider bringing your abundance on Thursday to share with our neighbors in need.
Blessings in Boxes
The Storehouse of Henderson County partners with local elementary schools in Henderson County to identify families that need assistance at Christmas. St. James is one of many local churches that help bring Christmas joy to children and teens to ensure no child is overlooked. We seek to sponsor 150+ children every season.
Our Little Roses
We support Our Little Roses, a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to rescuing young girls in Honduras from situations of risk, empowering and transforming them in a loving atmosphere of unity, respect, and security into successful women with moral and spiritual values strengthened through the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jenny McConnachie & Touching Acts
Jenny McConnachie is our medical missionary in South Africa. St. James supports Jenny’s work through the Outreach Commission.
American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem
A nonpolitical, nonsectarian 501(c)(3) organization, AFEDJ is dedicated to raising financial support for schools, hospitals, and centers for children with disabilities in Palestine, Israel, Jordan, and Lebanon. These institutions serve everyone, irrespective of their religion, ethnicity or ability to pay. They build hope for all in the Holy Land. The Christian values of equity, justice, and respect for the dignity of all are at the heart of our efforts.
